Athens, 03 April 2002 -- Det. Sean Potter was selected as the Sworn Employee of the fourth quarter. He was honored for his work on indecent exposure cases at two businesses. Since names of victims and witnesses were not available, a search warrant was obtained for financial records at one business and an ad was placed in the newspaper thereby obtaining names of two victims. Because of his persistence, the offender was arrested and will be prosecuted with the victim's testimony. His attention to duty and commitment to our citizens were recognized.

Records Technician Marbel Escalante was honored as the Civilian Employee for the fourth quarter. Ms Escalante was commended for giving unselfishly of her time and resources to provide a successful Christmas program for the Hispanic community. This program provided gifts and entertainment for children who might not otherwise have a Christmas. She is also willing to assist in translating Spanish for both internal and external customers.

Lt. Rutledge, Sgt. Fedrick, and Sgt. Whitmore were co-recipients of the Sworn Employee of the Year award. These officers responded to a call of a man with a gun at a Robert Hardeman Road residence on July 13, 2001. Upon arrival, they found the house fully engulfed in fire and a person trapped inside. They entered the residence and located the victim in a locked bedroom. The victim, who was severely burned, was pulled to safety. They were commended for their courage, bravery, and teamwork.

Her treatment of internal customers makes each feel special.

Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr., presented each with a plaque and expressed appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
