Clean Your Files Day Award

(L-R) Karen Sabatini (ACC Solid Waste Dept.), Captain Mike Shockley, and Chief Joseph Lumkin

On Friday April 19, the Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division hosted the second annual Clean Your Files Day event. Twelve businesses in the downtown area and 36 ACC government offices participated.

This year, there was a grand total of 80,846 pounds (40.42 tons) of recyclable office paper collected. The participating Athens-Clarke County government agencies collected 42,266 pounds (21.63 tons) of paper with almost half of that (20,200 pounds or 10.1 tons) being from the Police Department. The award for the collecting the largest amount of recyclable paper was awarded to the Information Management Division of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department on Monday July 1, 2002.

Clean Your Files Day encourages participants to reuse and recycle paper products as they clean off desks and sort through file cabinets. Clean Your Files Day is a national event promoted by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
