The Police Department announces the sworn and civilian employees for April - May - June 2002. Officer Rich McDougald was the Sworn Employee of the Quarter. In June he responded to a home invasion. A victim was found lying on the floor, barely conscious and bleeding profusely from multiple gunshot wounds. He rendered first aid until EMS personnel arrived and then assisted them by performing chest compressions while they ventilated the victim. When stabilized, the victim was transported to the hospital. His actions contributed greatly to saving this life. Without the immediate aid he rendered, the victim most likely would have not survived. Civilian Employees were Communications Supervisor Stella Jackson and Communications Officer Cynthia Ramirez-Bernal. In June a call of sexual battery/false imprisonment was received. The caller did not know where the victim was but described the area. This led CS Jackson to dispatch officers to Will Hunter Road. CO Ramirez-Bernal suggested the caller use #69 to obtain the telephone number. Upon receiving the number, she called 411 and was provided an address. Officers went to the location and made contact with the victim. Their quick thinking in a crisis situation and experienced decision making prevented a bad situation from becoming much worse. Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr., presented each with a plaque and expressed his appreciation for their dedication and hard work. |
