Employee of the Quarter

January-April 2007

Sworn Employee of the Quarter

- SPO David Painter -

(photo unavailable)

SPO David Painter received a call from a pawn shop owner who
advised several males were in his business attempting to sell a large
quantity of jewelry. Although he was off duty, he went to the pawn shop
and confronted one of the males (the others had left). The male refused to
obey his legal requests and tried to flee. While attempting to detain him,
a struggle ensued. SPO Painter subdued him until patrol officers arrived.
It was determined the jewelry (valued at $5,000) had just been stolen from
a nearby residence. Due to his actions, two subjects were charged with the
burglary and the jewelry returned to the grateful owner. His response to
this call is an excellent example that being a police officer is not an
eight-hour a day job – you can be called to service at any time.

Civilian Employee of the Quarter

- Records Technician Sylvia Dorsey -

A report alleging kidnap, rape, and a stolen vehicle was made. As part of her duties of routing incident reports, Sylvia Dorsey discovered a report of a vehicle chase in which the driver was arrested. The involved vehicle was the one reported stolen and she alerted a supervisor. During further questioning, the alleged victim admitted she had fabricated the incident. She was arrested and charged appropriately. Ms Dorsey was commended for her alertness and attentive response to these reports. Her actions greatly reduced the number of
investigative hours spent on this case causing an unnecessary expense to the government.
