K-9 Unit Recognized
Athens, 25 September 2001 -- The Athens-Clarke County Police Department s K-9 Unit was recently recognized at an Athens-Clarke County Commission meeting by Mayor Doc Eldridge. The offices and their K-9 partners are SPO Ronnie Erwin and Ricki, SPO Gerald Carter and Jackie, SPO William Hood and Beni, SPO Len Thomas and Bono. In May the officers attended the United States Police Canine Association Southeast Region 22 trials in Chattanooga, TN. All four officers and K-9s received regional certification. SPO Erwin and Ricki placed first in Obedience. SPO Thomas and Bono placed first in Agility. SPO Hood and Beni placed second in both categories. SPO Erwin and SPO Thomas participated in the USPCA National Trials held in Onamia, MN, in August. Both teams received national certification, Overall gold medals and Certificates of Excellence. They were the only teams from the southeast to participate in the nationals. All four teams represented the community, department and themselves in a professional manner. |
