Athens, 28 September 2001 -- Athens-Clarke County Police Detective Laura Lusk organized and led a fund raising campaign for the families of police officers who lost their lives in the New York City and Washington, DC, tragedies.

Officers, who were stationed in front of the local Kroger stores, volunteered to collect the money during their off-duty time. This effort raised $14,565.90 which was donated to The Metro Atlanta Police Emerald Society which will forward the monies to New York and Washington.

A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed and to the officers who volunteered their off duty time to assist families who lost loved ones.
